my new friend
To Emily, the Specchios, and Emily's other friends and family:
I did not know Emily, and she did not know me. However, Emily and I have a mutual friend, and I have followed Emily's blog over the last year through a link from our mutual friend. I can't help but feel as though I knew Emily personally; through testimonies and memories from friends and family, she has become a very real person to me. I have felt sadness for Emily's passing, but have also smiled at the funny memories and beautiful pictures posted by those she loved most. Almost on a daily basis, I find myself thinking of Emily and remembering that we will never know how short or long our lives will be, and therefore, I must live my life to the fullest. Emily's compassion for others that has been shown through memories on this blog has truly been an inspiration to me. Kate, I am the oldest sister in my family, and it brings me to tears to think of your loss. Your strength and faith has been amazing, and you are an inspiration as well. I am sure that Emily would be honored by how you are continuing to live her legacy and keep the memories of her alive. Mr. & Mrs. Specchio, your strength has been amazing as well, and you should know that people you have never met are praying for you every day. Thank you, Emily, for being a friend to me from heaven, and for being such a wonderful blessing to your loved ones... it is being reflected by them every day. I am thankful for the opportunity to get to "know" Emily through this blog... God Bless!

Thanks so much for the beautiful story of how you are touched by Emily without even having met her. It's really amazing and inspiring to hear. Also, thanks so much for the encouragement and support. It is certainly hard to maintain strength and drive for Emily when sometimes all I want to do is crumble and cry, but it's words like yours and of many that keep me (and my family) going. As I've mentioned before, it's uncanny how sometimes I get that much needed support when I most need it. I really feel like Em has a hand in this. This blog is truly special and amazing.
