DR - what started as a simple question....
I originally wrote this as a comment to Kate to simply ask her a question as a side post, but as I wrote my comment I noticed as I wrote that "I didn't want to post it on the main page" that it was in complete conflict with much of the purpose of this blog. Granted I wrote this with a simple intention of getting in touch with Kate about Emily's DR trip but in the end, I hope it does (and think it will) show everyone that there are still others who are undoubtedly changed by Emily even today.
Kate - This is unrelated to this post but I have a question and didn't want to post it on the main page. Ever since hearing about Emily's trip to the Dominican Republic I have wanted to get involved in something like it. Though I am out of school and working now, that desire hasn't faded. In fact, if nothing else, joining the working world has reminded me of the importance of finding meaning in life and doing something you are passionate about. That being said, I am really interested in doing the same kind of(if not the exact same) trip that Emily did. Do you have an email that I can reach you at or some way to try to find out some of the details of how she got started and what organization arranged the trip? I'd really appreciate any help or information you can offer! I met Emily 5 years ago and though I lost touch with her as time passed in the later years there is not a day I don't think about her and strive to live by her example. I haven't been able to write about the impact she has had on me in this blog yet, for reasons that I'm not quite sure, but one day I will be able to share all that she has shared and continues to share with me. Though briefly, she touched my life and has forever changed who I am. It is with absolute certainty that I am a better person for having her in my life. I don't think I will ever live up to the person she was in just those short 21 years, but because of her I will be a better person in the years I am afforded than I ever would have been otherwise. I am forever grateful to her and am glad to see that her strength and character are simply mirrored by your own family's strength and character. Emily will forever serve as a guiding light for the life I choose to lead.
