Tears to dry before the sun

I have kept a copy of Emily’s funeral card in my purse for the past year and pulled it out today to read the passage. I want to share it with you all, because it helps remind me to dry my tears and think of all the wonderful times we shared together.

I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing
times and bright sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those
who grieve, to dry before the sun.
Of happy memories that I leave
when life is done.

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend Emily’s banquet in New Jersey. I will be there with everyone else in spirit and spend tomorrow doing some of Emily’s favorite things. I plan on making her special pesto recipe and watching the sunset.

Love always, elise
