Emily's song
Recently I purchased a new LP player to listen to some of my old albums from the 60s and 70s. Yes those were the years that produced those now famous “incriminating photos” of Papa Specs in various stages of long haired inebriation that somehow Emily and Kate got their hands on. Well in true Emily and Kate fashion, not only did they produce many hours of belly laughs but they also became “legalized extortion” against me…haha. As I was sifting through some of these old albums, I came across these beautiful lyrics to a song entitled "Emily's Song" written by the Moody Blues in 1972. They must have envisioned a song way back then that would reveal the essence of her being. I felt it appropriate to share it with you on this her six month of her passing.
"Emily's Song"
By the Moody Blues
Lovely to know the warmth
You're smile can bring to me
I want to tell you but the words I do not know
Sing me a lullaby
Of songs I cannot write
And I will listen for there's beauty where there's love
Rivers of endless
Tides have passed beneath my feet
And all too soon they had me standing on my own
Then when my eyes were closed
You opened them for me
And now we journey thro' our lives to what will be
Through all that life can give to you
Only true love will see you through
And will stand beside you now in what you say
And in the morning of my life
And in the evening of my day
I will try to understand in what you say
Take me into your world
Alone I can not go
For I've been here so long
You're leaving me behind
Walk with me now
Into your land of fairy tales
And open up that book of pages in my mind
And open up that book of ages in my mind
Love, PaPa Specs

Mr. Specchio -
I was priviledged to know your daughter for four years, begining the day I moved into Slusher Wing. The first things she and Ashley said to me were their names and that they were "from Jersey." From then on, when she saw me, she would shout EMILAAAAAY.
I wanted to let you know that when I was little I asked my mom and dad over and over why they named me Emily. Every time my mom answered she said she had heard a song once and knew from that moment on that she would name her daughter Emily.
Seeing the lyrics to the Moody Blues song reminded me of the relationship I have with my parents and how Emily was so close to hers. I think about her all the time and wish I could hear her shouting our names out loud, but for now I just keep playing it over in my head, laughing to myself. Take care and know we're all always thinking about her.
