I have known Emily since elementary school and not having her as a part of my life anymore has been one of my biggest challenges. One of my favorite things about Emily was her ability to make everyone around her laugh. We used to spend hours just sitting in my room laughing about nothing. When we were in High School we went through a phase where we would call each other almost every night and come up with ridiculous scenarios to see who could make the other person laugh harder. We would have to put the phone on mute when the other person was doing their stand up rant, because we would practically be crying our laughs were so loud. When it came time to apply to colleges it was Emily who had me interested in applying to Penn State, because we had so much fun every time we went to visit her sister Kate. When I applied to Virginia Tech it caught Emily’s eye as well, because it seemed to be the Penn State of the south. In the spring time of our senior year our families traveled to Tech the same weekend to check out the school and see how we liked it. Emily immediately fell in love with how beautiful the campus was. After that weekend, Emily knew that Virginia Tech was the perfect place for her. I am so happy that she went to Tech, because Emily really came into her own skin and always had the best things to say about her experience there. She was so proud to be a part of the fraternity and loved having a second family at school. If there is one thing that I am sure of, she took advantage of every opportunity that the school has to offer. I visited Em twice during college, once my freshman year for spring break and one summer we took a road trip down for the weekend. The first time I went down with our friends, Emily had her wisdom teeth taken out that day. But in typical Emily fashion she did not let a little pain stop her. She took some medicine and we went out that night. She wanted to make sure we had a great spring break and in retrospect it was my favorite. Emily had a way of making sure everyone was always having a good time and smiling. That is just one of the things I love about her.
