sharing a smile

I have spent a lot of time trying to think of words that sum up how much Emily means to me. I can’t articulate how special of a person she was, but if you met her, then you know. I have known Emily since the 1st grade and have racked up quite of a few of her hysterical stories. If you haven’t heard this story yet I hope you read it because it is one of my personal favorites.

During our senior year of high school I was really sick for a week in February. On Valentines Day everyone got candy from their teachers and since I was not in school, Emily took it upon herself to bring me my treats. That is just the type of person Emily was, she always cared for others and could bring a smile to anyone’s face. She sat and talked with me for a while until she realized that she was late for work. You see, Emily had worked at a Chocolate Shop in high school and had picked up chocolate covered strawberries from the Chester store and needed to deliver them to the Morristown store. (On a side note… every Easter her boss made her dress up in a bunny costume and stand on Main St. waving at everyone. Needless to say she got quite a few honks from drivers.) So once Emily realized she was late for work she hurried out of my house and sped off to Morristown. Emily was sitting at the intersection of my street and Route 24 and was having a hard time finding a gap to cut into traffic. Finally she saw a small hole in the line of cars and sped into the traffic. Once on Route 24 she noticed that the car behind her was angry, because he started to flash his high beams and honk his horn. Emily figured that the man was mad since she cut him off. She kept on driving along, but realized that the man behind her was really angry and continued to honk and flash his high beams. After about a mile of the honking, Emily had realized that she cut off an entire funeral precession. The problem was that not only did she cut off the precession, but she cut of the funeral car from the entire family and friends. Once she realized what she had done she frantically swerved off the road and her chocolate covered strawberries flew all over her car. She had picked them up one by one and placed them back into the box and then delivered the damaged goods to her boss! She figured the five second rule needed to go into effect there.

Emily was the best story teller and I hope we can use this page to tell some classic Specchio stories. I am still in a state of shock like everyone else and I am having a hard time of letting go of such an amazing friend. She was truly an angel here on Earth and I will always cherish her in my heart. I will think of her every time I see the sun set, drink a raspberry Snapple iced tea, eat red vine licorice, listen to Dane Cook and many more things. If there is one thing I know Emily would want, it would be to see us all smile. I hope we can make each other smile by sharing some of our favorite stories.

  • I totally remember when this happened. One of the funniest parts about the story was when she got to the Morristown store. The manager there HATED the Chester store, so when she got a look at the nasty strawberries she yelled, "I HATE the Chester Store. Look at these disgusting strawberries. They're so dirty over there!"
